Should certain books be banned?  Jurassic Park by Michael Crichton sure shouldn't.  In this fascinating story of one man who discovered a precise way to bring extinct animals, in this case dinosaurs back to their living state.  This novel draws the reader in to this fantasized world called Jurassic Park.  In this book dinosaurs freely roam within their steel cages to captivate the reader.   This book is not only attention-grabbing entertainment but teaches important lessons as well.  In summary this is why the story Jurassic Park by Michael Crichton should not be banned.

The first reason that Jurassic Park shouldn’t be banned is because of the intriguing plot line and the enticing scenes of romance and action.  The story takes place on an island off the coast of Costa Rica where a little girl is bitten by a strange looking lizard.  Now this girl managed to get a picture drawn of the creature and was shown to the doctors to confirm the hunch.  A paleontologist named Ellie looks at the picture and states “Yup, that’s a dinosaur, you can see its neck upward and the amount of toes, and this is definitely a dinosaur” (34).  At this time this is one of the “edge of your seat” type moments because the doctors aren’t sure if they can save the little girl from the bite caused by the lizard.  In the end she is saved the bite turned out to be harmless.  According to “The Banned Books We Have Loved” by Jen Doll says that banning books does nothing to harm the author and some even said children and young adults are drawn to them even more that they’re banned.

The second and final reason that Jurassic Park should not be banned is the important lessons this book teaches us.  For example, when the Tyrannosaurus escapes from the steel electric fence (which is an intense and exciting incident) and is going after the children in the car ahead of Grant’s car gets out and helps the children after their driver gets out and started fleeing the sight.  The children are very thankful that he risked his own life for the security of them.  According to www.ala.org books should not be banned.  “They promote the freedom to choose or the freedom to express one's opinions even if that opinion might be considered unorthodox or unpopular, and stresses the importance of ensuring the availability of those viewpoints to all who wish to read them.”

Although Jurassic Park may have some violent death scenes and mild cussing it is still and ideal book to be reading.  For example, when the children’s driver flees the tyrannosaurus finds him and eats him.  Another reason is the mild cussing through the book, on page 215 Nedry, who is one of Dr. Grant’s team specialists, says “We’ve got to kill this son-of-a-bitch”. This quote is referring to the T-Rex who had just eaten the driver.  In the article “Darkness to visible”  it exclaims that teens and young adults are already experiencing things like death, so it is important to be prepared for it and the toll it may take on you.  In the end the driver had gotten what he deserved and the scene plays on.  This is no match to the remarkable story line and the captivating scenes.

To sum it up Jurassic Park is a beloved book that should not be banned or challenged in anyway.   The enchanting plot line to the story and the essential lessons this novel brings.  Jurassic Park by Michael Crichton is a wonderful story and should stay on the non banned list.
